As quoted from Verywell Health, experts suspect that inhaling essential oil molecules can activate brain chemicals involving in controlling sleep. Other studies have also shown that certain essential oil used as aromatherapy can make better sleep.

As reported by Verywell Health, here are the recommendations for aromatherapy scents that make for better sleep quality:

Researchers found that eight weeks of treatment with lavender aromatherapy helped improve sleep.

"Lavender can have a calming, relaxing effect, and can even expel insomnia, thus helping you sleep more soundly," dr. Karin Wiradarma from KlikDokter said.

Recommended dr. Karin, one can drip lavender essential oil into a diffuser to inhale. "In addition, you can also enjoy lavender aromatherapy by applying it to the skin (after diluting it with a carrier oil such as olive oil),"

Someone can also spray a liquid containing lavender aromatherapy onto the pillow to sleep better.

Cedrol, a component in cedarwood essential oil, has been shown in early studies to produce a calming effect. Another study involved about 40 older adults who had dementia problems. They slept near towels dripping with essential oils, such as pine, cedar, and cypress oils.

The towels were placed around the participants' pillows every night for 20 days. As a result, their total sleep time was longer than before using cedar wood aromatherapy.

In a study published in Complementary Therapies in Clinical Practice in 2016, researchers examined the use of essential oils (including a blend of bergamot and sandalwood essential oils) in 65 personal aromatherapy kits to improve sleep.
