Indonesia Invites China to Develop IKN Automated Rail Transit

China – The Indonesian Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi has invited China to develop Automated Rail Transit (ART) in the new capital city, IKN Nusantara. 

Minister Sumadi emphasized that the exploratory process with the Chinese side was carried out through the China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC). 

CRRC is rumored to bring one unit of Autonomous Train to Indonesia as a display for an exhibition that will be held at IKN Nusantara around July 2024. 

"One train set consists of three carriages, with a capacity of 307 passengers, an operational speed of 40 km/h, and a maximum speed of 70 km/h," Minister Sumadi said in a statement on Friday. 

The IKN authority also sought the Chinese government's support to invite private parties there to invest in Indonesia, especially on railway projects in major cities in Indonesia, for example; Bandung, Semarang, and Makassar. 

The Minister said the two countries have also committed to continue to enhance cooperation in the development of national transportation infrastructure. 

It has previously been realized through the construction of the Jakarta-Bandung Whoosh High Speed Train project, as a form of bilateral cooperation commitment. 

"Whoosh is a potential project to be developed in the future,"

In addition to the railway sector, Minister Sumadi also invited China to invest in aviation. Especially to fulfill the needs of flight services in areas that have a fairly short runway. 

"As well as cooperation in increasing the capacity of Human Resources in the aviation sector," he said. 

In the shipping sector, Minister Sumadi also explored cooperation in the field of human resource development, through various education and training programs. 

The Minister of Transportation also invited the Chinese Minister of Transportation to attend the Ministerial Roundtable on Intelligent Transport System (ITS) Asia Pacific which will be held in Jakarta in May 2024. 

During his visit to China, he also held meetings with several parties, such as CRRC Chairman Yongcai Sun and Huawei Chairman. 

In addition, the Minister of Transportation will also hold discussions with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce in China (Inacham) in Shanghai.
