Jakarta, VIVA – Indonesian Ministry of Transportation has postponed the adjustment or increase in economic class ferry tariffs for interprovincial and international routes.

Director General of Land Transportation at the Ministry of Transportation, Risyapudin Nursin, stated that this delay is due to the need for an extended period to socialize the new tariffs.

“A longer period of socialization is needed so that information can be effectively conveyed and accepted by the users,” Nursin said in a statement on Friday (Nov 1).

The fare increase was previously set in the Minister of Transportation Decree No. 131 of 2024, amending KM 61 of 2023 regarding the tariff for economic ferry services on interprovincial and international routes.

The new rates included an average 5 percent increase across 27 ferry routes, including the busy Merak-Bakauheni route, initially set to take effect on Friday (Nov 1).

However, with the postponement now in effect until further notice, Risyapudin emphasized that ferry services will continue to use the previous tariffs starting today.

“The tariff adjustment aims to balance public interests, sailing safety and security, and the sustainability of the ferry transportation industry’s business operations,” he stated.
