Rio de Janeiro, VIVA – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday (Nov 18) during the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The two leaders discussed various opportunities for strategic cooperation, particularly in the fields of healthcare and education between the two countries.

These areas are urgent as Indonesia is in need of medical professionals, with a current shortage of 160,000 doctors.

"We hope to strengthen cooperation with India, especially through the sending of professors and specialist doctors to teach at our universities," the President said.

In addition, President Prabowo welcomed the interest of Indian companies in the healthcare sector, including the pharmaceutical industry and the establishment of foreign hospital branches in Indonesia.

He emphasized the importance of increasing the number of Indonesian students studying in India and promoting closer educational collaboration.

During the meeting, President Prabowo also discussed trade cooperation, particularly regarding the import of rice from India.

"We hope to finalize the agreement for rice imports from India," he concluded.
