Jakarta, VIVA – Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Sudaryono, stated that the government is targeting the import of 200,000 dairy cows to support the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program. Currently, the import of dairy cows from abroad is still in progress.

"The regulation has just been finalized, so we can now import from additional countries besides Australia and other registered nations. We’re expanding to other countries, and we hope to bring in 200,000 cows by the end of 2025," Sudaryono said on Tuesday (Jan 14).

Sudaryono explained that around 160 companies have committed to supporting the procurement of dairy cows for the MBG program.

These companies are spread across both domestic and international markets.

"There are about 160 companies that have committed, both local and international. Some are bringing in 200 cows, and we’re accommodating all of them," he remarked.

Earlier, the Head of the Presidential Communication Office, Hasan Nasbi, addressed the absence of milk during the first day of the Free Nutritious Meals program launch on Monday, January 6, 2025, particularly in Jakarta

Nasbi explained that milk is not a mandatory item on the daily menu. Its provision depends on the region.

"At a minimum, it’s once a week. Milk isn’t a mandatory item because the supply isn’t evenly distributed in all areas," he explained.
