"The Jakarta Transportation Agency will construct 3.8 kilometers to complete the pedestrianization under the Complete Street concept," Liputo said in a statement on Monday (April 28).

He explained that this development is part of the "quick wins" program for the first 100 days of work of Jakarta’s Governor and Deputy Governor, Pramono Anung and Rano Karno.

Furthermore, Liputo stated that in 2024, the Jakarta Transportation Agency has already built a total of 314.196 kilometers of bicycle lanes throughout the city.

He explained that the development of bike lanes is based on several factors, including road typology, traffic volume, urban space requirements, and the road’s right-of-way (ROW), adjusting to government or relevant authority ownership.

"Currently, protected bike lanes are implemented through the use of planter boxes (as seen on Sudirman street), integration with green amenities/parks (as seen on Jalan Pattimura), and the use of solar-powered road studs to increase cyclist awareness," he said.

Liputo added that the agency continues to collaborate with all stakeholders, including government agencies and NGOs, to prepare technical plans and conduct evaluations for bike lane development.

"This also includes promoting the use of bicycles as a mode of transportation to increase cycling activity," he concluded.
