Trump Calls Prabowo: A New Chapter in US–Indonesia Relations?

Jakarta, VIVA – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto received a phone call from United States President Donald Trump.

The news was revealed through a photo uploaded by Prabowo on his personal Instagram account, @prabowo.

"Today I received a phone call from the President of the United States, Donald Trump," the head of state wrote in the post on Friday (June 13).

However, the president did not provide further details about the content of his conversation with Trump.

In the post, president Prabowo is seen taking a phone call from President Trump.

As of now, the Presidential Palace has not released an official statement regarding the communication between Prabowo and Trump.



Recently, Trump’s policy on reciprocal tariffs has had an impact on many countries, including Indonesia.

In response, President Prabowo dispatched a team led by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto to negotiate with the U.S. about the tariff policy.

Earlier, the president and president Trump had communicated in November 2024.

At that time, Prabowo was visiting the U.S. to meet with then-President Joe Biden.

During the trip, Prabowo called Trump to congratulate him on winning the U.S. election.

In that conversation, President Prabowo expressed his desire to meet with Trump in person.

In turn, President Trump praised Prabowo for his leadership and accomplishments, and conveyed his wish to visit Indonesia.
