East Nusa Tenggara, VIVA – Three airports on Flores Island in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) have been temporarily closed following the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki in Wulanggitang District, East Flores Regency.
The spokesperson for El Tari Airport in Kupang, I Gusti Ngurah Yudi Saputra, confirmed that the closures were affecting several scheduled flights.
“Today, there are three flight routes where airlines have canceled operations,” Saputra said on Wednesday (June 18).
The affected airports include Frans Seda Airport in Maumere (Sikka Regency), Bajawa Airport, and the airport in Ende Regency.

Not only are flights from Kupang to these destinations canceled, but the return flights from those airports to Kupang have also been suspended.
Passengers who have purchased tickets for flights on affected routes are advised to contact their respective airlines for refunds or rescheduling.
The volcanic activity began again on Tuesday, June 17, when Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki erupted, sending a thick ash column reaching up to 10,000 meters above the summit — or approximately 11,584 meters above sea level. The ash was visibly dense and grey, spreading in all directions.
Despite the high intensity of the eruption, no official reports of casualties or property damage from nearby villages had been received as of this publication.
