World Leaders Convey Deep Condolences After Huge Quake Hit Turkey

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, his country also ready to provide the necessary assistance to overcome the consequences of the disaster.

“I express my sincere condolences to the President @RTErdogan, the people, and the families of the victims of the earthquake in the southeast. I wish a speedy recovery to all the victims. We will stand by the people in this difficult time. Ready to provide the necessary assistance to overcome the consequences of the disaster,” President Zelensky wrote.

Turkey's earthquake destroyed hundreds of buildings and killed thousands of people. Hundreds of people are believed to still be trapped under rubble, and the toll is expected to rise as rescue workers search mounds of rubble in cities and towns across the area.

Many buildings were turned into piles of shattered rubble, while major aftershocks also occurred in some areas, which were almost as strong as the first.

Rescue workers and residents in several towns searched for survivors and worked to remove metal and concrete that buried many people.

A hospital in Turkey collapsed, forcing patients, including newborns, to be evacuated from facilities in Syria. In the Turkish city of Adana, a resident said three buildings near his home collapsed.
