Although Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace is one of the shortest circuits on the calendar, the 4.309km track has sectors where cars can run at full speed. This race will be the second Sao Paulo Grand Prix and 49th world championship race held in Brazil, according to FIA statistics.

The first F1 Brazilian GP on the world championship agenda was held in 1973, until it became a regular part of the Formula 1 calendar, except in 2020 when the race was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Brazil held another race last year, called, the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.

Two circuits have hosted the Brazilian Grand Prix. Jacarepagua in Rio de Janeiro in 1978 and from 1981 to 1989. The other was located at Interlagos, for the first time using a 7.9km track layout and since 1990 trimmed to 4.3km as it is used today.

Alain Prost is the most successful driver at the Brazilian GP with six wins, while Michael Schumacher is the master of Interlagos with a record four wins.

Vettel won in 2010 and 2013 for Red Bull and in 2017, Ferrari's most recent win in Brazil. Hamilton won for Mercedes in 2016, 2018, and 2021. Max Verstappen meanwhile took the win for Red Bull in 2019.

Interlagos is considered to be a circuit that makes overtaking easy, but also very helpful for riders who start on the front row. Since 1990, 24 of the 31 races have been won by those who started from the front row, and by pole sitters 14 times.
