The Reason Why Chinese New Year Related to Rain and Luck

Chinese New Year celebrations are always identical with the color red, delicious food, rain, and even luck. But what’s the reason why Chinese New Year is related to the rainy season and luck? Here's the explanation.

The New Year celebration is known to fall in the month between January and February. These months in Indonesia are known to be the peak of the rainy season. However, according to Chinese beliefs, the rain that falls in the new year itself is believed to provide luck. 

Cairns Vice President and District Chinese Association, Nathan Lee Long said the heavy rain that fell in the new year was a sign of prosperity in the coming year, As quoted from the ABC page. 

Rain is a symbol of good luck in China and we see it most often in places where superstitions are quite prevalent, running water, fountains, and waterfalls, so rain ahead of Chinese New Year is also a sign of good luck, he said.

He revealed the more rain the better, as is the case with anything, just as giving is a good thing in China, and when you give you know you will get something in return.

So, the more you give the more you get back, as the more rain, the more luck you will get. 

"It's a good sign of good luck, to start the year with a bit of rain, we all know it's needed in the area and then to start this cat year, which looks to be a very successful year of growth and achievement," Nathan stated.
