Indonesia to Extend Simbara System to Include Gold and Copper

Jakarta – Indonesian government has re-launched the Mineral and Coal Information System, known as Simbara, expanding its regulatory oversight to include other commodities such as nickel and tin.

Arifin Tasrif, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) assured that the integrated information system would also be extended to the trade of other mineral commodities in the future.

After coal, tin, and nickel, Minister revealed that the government is currently completing efforts to include commodities such as copper, gold, bauxite, manganese, palm oil, and others into the Simbara system.

"In the future, we will still be working on several mineral commodities, including copper, gold, bauxite, manganese, and others," Minister Tasrif stated on Monday (July 22).

The minister explained that since the enactment of Law Number 3 of 2020 on mining or when the authority shifted to the central government, such licensing services could not be optimized without using an information system.

For instance, the Electronic Non-Tax State Revenue system, known as e-PNBP, is an application with a comprehensive web-based online computerization system.

Therefore, minister continued, this system allows it to be accessed anytime and anywhere, to continuously monitor and oversee the mineral resources sector trade comprehensively and deliver significant results for state revenue.

"Several information systems in the mineral resources sector that have been developed include e-PNBP. In fact, e-PNBP has handled up to 120,000 transactions in a year," he concluded.
