Prabowo Subianto and President Erdogan Discussed Bilateral Defense Ties

Ankara, VIVA – Indonesian President-elect and Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto, who arrived in Turkiye on Monday, met President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the Presidential Complex in the capital Ankara on Tuesday. The two discussed about several issues.
Subianto was welcomed by Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler in an official ceremony earlier, one day after he met Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Ankara.
During the meeting on Tuesday, the leaders discussed bilateral relations between Turkiye and Indonesia, Israel’s attacks on Gaza, and various regional and global issues.

Both leaders also discussed the cooperation between the two countries in the defense industry.
Prabowo Subianto explained the important roles played by Indonesia and Turkiye as regional leaders who must significantly contribute to global peace. Indonesia and Turkiye are friendly nations.
"Friends and partners in defense cooperation. This relationship must be enhanced to build mutual trust and increase the capacities of the armed forces and the defense industries of both countries," Subianto said in a statement.
Meanwhile, President Erdogan emphasized that the ties between the two nations, rooted in deep historical and cultural connections, would continue to develop in all areas, particularly in the defense, economy, and energy sectors.
Earlier, during a meeting with Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler, Prabowo mentioned the bilateral relationship between Indonesia and Turkiye, which has now entered its 74th year.
Prabowo Subianto expressed his hope that this year the cooperation between Indonesia and Turkiye will be further strengthened.
He also stated that Turkiye is an important friendly country that has long collaborated with Indonesia in the defense sector.
"I see many potential areas for mutually beneficial defense cooperation between the two countries. This presents an opportunity for Indonesia and Turkey to further enhance cooperation in the future," he concluded.
