President Prabowo Inaugurated Freeport’s Gold Refinery: The Largest in the World

Gresik, VIVA – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto officially inaugurated PT Freeport Indonesia’s gold refinery in Gresik, East Java, on Monday (March 17).
"(On Monday), I, Prabowo Subianto, President of Indonesia, hereby inaugurate PT Freeport’s precious metal refinery in Gresik, East Java," the head of state declared during the ceremony.
President Prabowo expressed his gratitude that Indonesia now has this gold refinery, emphasizing that the metal purification facility—particularly for gold—is the largest of its kind in the world.

"We were grateful to have this facility, this industry. I’ve been informed that this refinery, especially for gold, is the largest in the world in terms of an integrated upstream-to-downstream operation within a single entity. This is something we should truly appreciate," he stated.
With this refinery in place, President Prabowo is confident that Indonesia’s ambition to move beyond exporting raw materials and instead focus on value-added products will become a reality.
"This is what we want—for our country, our nation, to stop merely selling raw materials. We aim to sell finished goods, end products with significant added value," the president concluded.
