Indonesia Sent IDR 19.8 Billion in Aid to Myanmar Earthquake Victims

Jakarta, VIVA – Indonesia, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has provided humanitarian aid to victims of the earthquake in Myanmar on Thursday (Apr 3).
The aid departure ceremony was led by Foreign Minister Sugiono at Halim Perdanakusuma International Airport in East Jakarta.
"We were dispatching humanitarian aid to Myanmar following the devastating earthquake on March 28. Given the ongoing security and political instability in Myanmar, the exact number of casualties and damages is still being updated," Minister Sugiono stated.
According to the ministry, the disaster has so far resulted in, 2,886 deaths, 4,639 injuries, and around approximately 300 missing persons.
"Our Indonesian Embassy in Myanmar has been closely monitoring the situation. As of now, there are no reported Indonesian casualties. We hope that all Indonesian citizens in Myanmar remain safe," he added.

Following the March 28 earthquake, the ministry has worked closely with the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture to arrange humanitarian assistance.
"At the same time, ASEAN held an emergency meeting with all Foreign Ministers to coordinate humanitarian aid efforts for Myanmar as part of an emergency response initiative," minister Sugiono explained.
The minister confirmed that the aid was a direct directive from President Prabowo Subianto.
Indonesia is sending a total of 124 tons of essential supplies, valued at approximately US$ 1.2 million (IDR 19.8 billion).
"Based on the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' meeting, Myanmar is in urgent need of shelters, medical equipment, and medicines. Therefore, we are prioritizing these items in our aid shipment," he concluded.
