President Prabowo Calls for Stronger ASEAN Cooperation on Myanmar

Jakarta, VIVA – Indonesian President, Prabowo Subianto, participated in the retreat session of the 46th ASEAN Summit, which focused on the ongoing situation in Myanmar, on Monday (May 26).
On this occasion, President Prabowo called for concrete steps to resolve the Myanmar crisis and to strengthen regional cooperation.
"This is aimed at resolving the conflict there, and also at how this region—how ASEAN—faces ongoing changes and shifts in the geopolitical and economic landscape," said Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono as quoted from the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube broadcast.

In addition to attending the ASEAN Summit sessions, President Prabowo also held bilateral meetings with Prime Minister of Lao PDR Sonexay Siphandone and Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.
During these meetings, President Prabowo emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation, especially in the economic sector.
“In both bilateral talks, he stressed the need to strengthen partnerships, particularly in economic sectors. This is so that the outcomes of the plenary session can truly be implemented in a concrete way,” he stated.
Moreover, minister Sugiono also conveyed that the ASEAN Summit series would continue into the second day with several key events, including the ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) meeting.
