Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection, Arifah Fauzi stated that girls made up the majority of the victims, based on the Ministry’s data.

"From January until June 12, 2025, a total of 11,850 cases of violence have been reported, involving more than 12,000 victims. The majority of the victims are female, numbering over 10,000, while male victims are around 2,000," Fauzi stated on Tuesday (June 17).

The number is expected to rise as the year progresses. The most common form of violence recorded so far is sexual violence.

“Most of the reported violence is sexual in nature, and the highest number of incidents occurred within the household,” she stated.

Minister Fauzi expressed deep concern over the findings. She noted that, according to the 2024 National Women's Life Experience Survey by the Ministry, 1 in 4 women in Indonesia have experienced violence.

“Based on our analysis at the Ministry, the main causes of violence include poor parenting practices,” she remarked.

The minister “The second factor is the irresponsible use of gadgets, and the third is the surrounding environment."
