Jakarta, VIVA – Changi Airport Group (CAG), the operator of Singapore's world-renowned Changi Airport, has announced plans to establish direct flight connections to three Indonesian cities; Semarang (Central Java), Palembang (South Sumatra), and Belitung Island off the coast of Sumatra.
According to The Straits Times, CAG revealed that it is currently in discussions with various airlines to explore potential services for these routes.
“CAG is in ongoing discussions with airline partners to explore opportunities to expand air connectivity between Singapore and Indonesia,” a spokesperson stated on Monday, June 23, 2025.

Airport authorities in Semarang, Palembang, and Belitung have reportedly agreed to accommodate international flights from Singapore, paving the way for the launch of these new routes.
The move comes shortly after Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto expressed his commitment to strengthening air links between the two countries during his state visit to Singapore on June 16.
President Prabowo stated that he has instructed the relevant ministries to facilitate the opening of direct flights from Singapore to various airports in Indonesia.
“Of course, we must improve infrastructure and safety mechanisms, but in principle, I want to see easier and faster access to our airports,” the head of state said during his visit.
Currently, there are no direct flights from Singapore to the three destinations identified by CAG.
As a result, travelers from Singapore must transit through Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta to reach Semarang, Palembang, or Belitung.
