Karet Station May Close, but Plans Still Under Review

Jakarta, VIVA – PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia (KCI) has provided an update regarding the possible closure of Karet Station in Jakarta, a plan that was previously mentioned by State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) Minister Erick Thohir. Although the closure is under consideration, there is still no official timeline.
Leza Arlan, Public Relations Manager at KCI, said the company is currently focusing on developing supporting infrastructure to transfer operations from Karet Station to the nearby BNI City Station.
“It’s still in progress. We will announce when the transition will take place,” Arlan stated on Tuesday (June 24).
When asked whether the station would be closed this year, he declined to give details and urged the public to remain patient.

“Just wait and see,” he added.
Earlier, the Director General of Railways at the Ministry of Transportation, Risal Wasal, also emphasized that the closure of Karet Station is not final.
“It’s still uncertain. The definition of ‘closure’ itself hasn’t been clearly decided,” Wasal remarked, in different occassion.
He explained that the ministry is still conducting studies to assess the feasibility of shutting down the station, with a focus on ensuring ease of access for commuters.
“We’re still evaluating the possibilities. Accessibility for the public remains a key consideration,” he stated.
