4 Killed Over Floods, Landslides in West Bandung

Bandung –The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) reported a total of 4 people died due to flooding and landslides in Gintung, Cipongkor, West Bandung, West Java.
Basarnas Public Relations Bureau Staff Agus Basori in Jakarta, on Wednesday (March 27), confirmed that the four victims' bodies had been evacuated by the SAR team to the Regional Hospital CIlilin for further identification by the DVI and Forensic Identification Police experts from the West Java Regional Police.
Thus, there are still six missing victims, and the search process will be continued this morning by a joint SAR team consisting of Basarnas, Indonesian Army-Police, Tagana, and volunteers.

Basori stated that they are still trying to search for victims even though heavy equipment cannot be used due to the limited access to the disaster area, which is a steep, muddy terrain of 60-70 degrees.
Basarnas has deployed additional personnel from the Basarnas Special Group (BSG) division to supplement the joint SAR personnel at the scene.
According to Basori, the BSG division consists of trained elite personnel formed based on their capabilities, expertise, and competence in specific search and rescue conditions.
Earlier, the Bandung SAR Office received reports that 10 residents were missing after experiencing flooding and landslides on Sunday.
The flooding and landslides have also forced around 400 residents of Gintung, Cipongkor, West Bandung to evacuate to emergency shelters and the homes of relatives deemed safer.
Two of the evacuees were treated intensively at the local health center due to injuries from being hit by landslide debris.
Additionally, the disaster has caused damage to dozens of homes and public facilities, with 25 homes severely damaged and one house at risk of collapsing.
Due to this situation, the West Bandung District Government declared a state of emergency for landslide disasters for 14 days, from March 25 to April 14, 2024.
