Jokowi Orders MLFF Implementation, Tapless Payment on Toll Road

Jakarta – Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) provided several evaluations of Eid al-Fitr homecoming arrangements during a limited meeting at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Monday (May 6).
Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said the President highlighted several issues in the implementation of last year's Eid al-Fitr homecoming, such as ordering that toll gate payments implement a tapless payment system or Multi Lane Free Flow (MLFF).
"Regarding gate management, we must no longer use tapping," the Minister said at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Monday.
This can be seen in the long queues of vehicles that occurred along the KM 72 Cipali Toll Road to KM 414 Kalikangkung Toll Road despite the one-way system being implemented.

It's because one of the problems is caused by Eid homecoming travelers taking turns waiting in line to tap their cards at toll gates.
"With the OBU (on board unit) system, vehicles can pass through directly and their toll fees are immediately recorded," Minister Sumadi stated.
In addition, the Minister admitted that President Jokowi also requested relevant ministries/agencies to continue the free homecoming program as a solution to reduce homecoming travelers intending to use motorcycles.
"All government agencies should provide free homecoming programs. Not only to Java, but also to Sumatra and other regions," he concluded.
