Jokowi: Effective Bureaucracy Must Make It Easier for Public

Jakarta – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated the 2024 SPBE Summit and launched Government Technology (Govtech) Indonesia at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday (May 27).
On this occasion, the Head of State emphasized that bureaucracy should facilitate service to the public and made it easier for people.
“I want to emphasize that the presence of bureaucracy should serve, not complicate and not slow down the public," the President said in a statement on Monday.
However, President Jokowi expressed his surprise at how it could be easier when there are about 27,000 applications running independently across ministries, agencies, local government, provincial government, and regency/city government.

Therefore, Jokowi has ordered a halt to the creation of new applications or platforms. The existing applications in ministries, agencies, local governments, and regency/city governments amount to nearly 27,000.
“As I stated in January, starting this year, stop making new applications, stop creating new platforms. Stop,” President Jokowi emphasized.
The President that the budget for new applications reached IDR 6.2 trillion.
He pointed out that one ministry, such as the Ministry of Health, has over 500 applications, with the Ministry of Health alone having 400 applications.
Furthermore, President Jokowi mentioned that local governments also create new applications whenever there is a change in leadership.
“Perhaps in the past, every time there was a new minister, a new application was created. The same happened at the local level: new governor, new application; new head of department, new application. The orientation was always project-based. This must be stopped and cannot be continued," he remarked.
Therefore, the President stated that every ministry, agency, and local government must work together to achieve data integration and interoperability.
Thus, to enhance Indonesia's competitiveness, it is necessary to strengthen digital public infrastructure and govtech.
