Indonesia Ready to Host 1,000 Gaza Refugees Temporarily

Jakarta, VIVA – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is conducting a diplomatic tour to five countries in the Middle East, such as the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Turkiye, Egypt, Qatar, and Jordan.

During his visit, the president is seeking support for Indonesia's plan to evacuate 1,000 residents from Gaza, Palestine.

President Prabowo stated that the evacuees would include those injured due to Israel’s genocide, as well as orphaned children.

"Those who are wounded, those suffering from trauma, or orphaned children — whoever they are. Indonesia is ready to send planes to transport them. We estimate about 1,000 people for the first wave," the head of state said on Wednesday (Apr 9).

He emphasized that the condition for the evacuation is that the Palestinian people must agree to it, and the evacuees' stay in Indonesia would only be temporary.

They will return to Palestine once they have recovered or when conditions there are safe enough for them to live again.

"The conditions are that all parties must agree. Secondly, their stay here is only temporary, until they recover. Once, they are healthy again and Gaza is safe enough, they must return to their homeland," President Prabowo concluded.
