Anindya Bakrie: Indonesia to Use Critical Minerals for Green Energy Push

Jakarta, VIVA – Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), Anindya Bakrie, has revealed about the U.S. energy policy under Donald Trump, which increasingly leans on fossil fuels while moving away from the Green New Deal.

In an exclusive interview with Fox News, Bakrie stressed that Indonesia is taking a different approach.

“Indonesia is blessed with oil and fossil fuel resources. But underground, we also have all types of critical minerals—nickel, bauxite, tin, copper, and rare earth elements,” Bakrie said on Friday (May 2).

Because of this, Bakrie sees a major opportunity for driving the energy transition.

“Above ground, we have massive potential for renewable energy—solar, wind, and hydro. Interestingly, even U.S. states like Texas are now rapidly expanding their renewable energy sectors,” he

The kadin chairman also highlighted Indonesia’s rich biodiversity, which he believes can play a role in addressing climate challenges, particularly through carbon utilization.

“Not many people may realize this, but Indonesia has the third-largest tropical rainforest in the world,” he remarked.

Because of this, Bakrie believes that in the future, Indonesia can fully harness the potential of carbon credits to help increase the value-added benefits from its critical mineral sector.

“We in the business community—and I know the government as well—are very enthusiastic about making this happen,” he concluded.
