VKTR Strengthens Role in Public Transport Electrification

The facility is the first in Indonesia specifically built to assemble commercial EVs using the CKD method. It focuses on electric buses and trucks, serving as a backbone for the nation’s EV ecosystem from upstream to downstream.

Construction began in February 2024 and was completed by the end of the same year, showing VKTR’s strong management and technological capabilities as well as its commitment to energy and transportation transformation.

“From the beginning, we didn’t just build a factory — we created a hub of innovation, collaboration, and a symbol of the rise of Indonesia’s EV industry,” Bakrie said on Thursday (May 29).

He added that, with the support of the government, strategic partners, and local workforce, Indonesia has a real opportunity to lead the sustainable mobility transition in Southeast Asia and contribute to the global EV market.

The facility has already succeeded in producing electric buses with a Local Content Requirement (TKDN) of over 40%, proving VKTR’s ability to build high-quality products with strong local value.

With a production capacity of up to 3,000 units per year, the plant is ready to meet Indonesia’s growing demand for electric commercial vehicles. Key partners like Transjakarta have already ordered VKTR electric buses through DAMRI, and several units have previously been operated by Sinarjaya and Mayasari Bakti.

Moreover, the facility is a big landmark in VKTR's industrial roadmap. Moving forward, VKTR aims to raise the TKDN to over 60 percent, expand production lines, and strengthen Indonesian position in the global EV supply chain.

“This facility is a proof of our commitment to producing commercial electric vehicles that are not only reliable and high-quality but also a testament to the skills of Indonesian engineers,” said VKTR CEO Gilarsi Wahju Setijono, in the same occassion.

He continurd, “With TKDN above 40%, we’re showing the world that Indonesia can manufacture global-standard EVs that still reflect our local identity."
