EU to Eliminate Tariffs on 80% of Indonesian Exports Under IEU-CEPA

Jakarta, VIVA – Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), Anindya Bakrie, believes that the implementation of the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA) will bring a number of benefits for Indonesia.

“The conclusion of the IEU-CEPA negotiations will mark a historic milestone, ushering in a new era of comprehensive trade relations between Indonesia and the European Union,” he said on Monday (June 16).

With the implementation of IEU-CEPA, he added, around 80 percent of Indonesia’s exports to the EU will be exempted from tariffs.

This includes key commodities such as palm oil, cocoa, coffee, textiles, kitchen equipment, and seafood.

“It will also open up deeper investment opportunities in sectors like renewable energy, semiconductors, and critical minerals,” Bakrie explained.

Once IEU-CEPA is in effect, he said it would directly strengthen exports and boost investment across various strategic sectors.

In addition, Bakrie stated that cooperation with the Netherlands would further expand Indonesia's trade potential with the EU. The Netherlands serves as a key partner for Indonesia in accessing the broader European market.

“It will also create jobs. Just recently, we sent migrant workers to the Netherlands — and more will be needed going forward,” he remarked.

As information, government previously announced that the final conclusion of the IEU-CEPA negotiations would be delayed from the initial target of Q1 2025 to the end of 2026.
