London, VIVA – Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), Anindya Novyan Bakrie, attended the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Indonesia forum held at the UK Parliament complex in London on Tuesday (May 20).

Bakrie accompanied by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary (Ambassador E&P) of the Republic of Indonesia to the United Kingdom, Desra Percaya.

He explained that several strategic issues were discussed during the meeting, including trade tariff dynamics between Indonesia and the United States (US), as well as opportunities for bilateral economic cooperation between Indonesia and the UK.

“We met with the All-Party Parliamentary Group (on Indonesia), or APPG, which is essentially a group of parliamentarians focusing on Indonesia. They asked about the current tariff dynamics with the US, Indonesia’s position, and what kinds of collaborations can be pursued with the UK,” Bakrie said on Thursday (May 22).

He then emphasized that strong government-to-government (G2G) diplomacy should be accompanied by robust business and investment collaboration.

“Visits like this are good, but they will have greater impact if followed by solid business and investment deals. This way, we can aim for strong growth, gradually reaching 8 percent economic growth, creating more jobs, and ultimately boosting trade and investment,” he stated.

This activity, Bakrie continued, is part of an ongoing economic diplomacy strategy aimed at expanding Indonesia’s market access beyond traditional partners such as the US and China.

“This is our effort to tap into new markets beyond America and China, through multilateral cooperation like the OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) and BRICS, as well as bilateral partnerships such as with the UK,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Indonesian Ambassador to the UK, Desra Percaya, stressed that the meeting plays a vital role in strengthening economic ties between the two nations.

“Mr. Bakrie has shared the developments of Indonesia’s economy, including its strategic sectors. Our priority now is to foster strong relations between Indonesia and the UK, with the goal of enhancing mutually beneficial trade and investment ties,” said Desra.
