Minister Appreciates Rock Climbing Earns Ticket to Paris Olympics

Jakarta – The Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo appreciated the Indonesian national rock climbing team managed to get one ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics achieved by Rahmad Adi Mulyono from the speed number (speed men).

The ticket to the Paris Olympics was won in the IFSC Asian Qualifier Jakarta 2023 qualifying tournament at Gelora Bung Karno, Senayan, Central Jakarta.

"I am very happy and proud that we are hosting the Asian qualifier for the world championships. This is in accordance with the target, adding one ticket to the Olympics," Minister Ariotedjo said on Sunday. 

The Ministry of Youth and Sports together with the Indonesian Rock Climbing Federation (FPTI) are targeting to maximize the next qualifying match by passing back Indonesian athletes. 

"It has been discussed with the Chairperson of FPTI, after this there are still two qualifications in Shanghai and Budapest. So, we will maximize," Minister Ariotedjo conveyed. 

The Minister also hopes that rock climbing can become a sport that can really help Indonesia at the Olympics. 

Regarding support, Ministry Youth and Sports will add assistance to rock climbing athletes from a psychological side.

"Later, we will prepare mentally and physically the athletes who will fight in this world championship," 

Indonesian men's rock climbing athlete, Rahmad Adi Mulyono, secured a ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics after beating his rival, Kiromal Katibin.

Rahmad Adi Mulyono recorded the fastest time in the final round of 5.35 seconds while Katibin finished in second place despite being declared down in the race for tickets to the world's biggest sports party.

Mulyono’s achievement also followed the steps of Indonesian female rock climbing athletes as well as the gold medalist of the Rock Climbing World Championship and the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi who had previously confirmed a ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Thus, Indonesia has two representatives in rock climbing in the men's and women's categories.
