Bakrie: Indonesia Holds the Key to Tackling Global Economic Uncertainty

Jakarta, VIVA – The Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Anindya Novyan Bakrie, expressed an optimistic outlook on Indonesia's economy, despite the current global uncertainty.

He compared Indonesia's situation to that of major countries like China, the United States, and regions like Europe.

"We should be grateful—not just in the sense of daily gratitude, but when compared to China, for instance, their country is very large. However, they don't have the kind of democracy we do," he said in Jakarta on Friday (Dec 13).

He also highlighted the challenges faced by major nations. For example, the political tensions in the United States between the Republican and Democratic parties, as well as differences in work ethics between European and Asian countries.

"In Europe, their work ethic is different from Asia. Whether they like it or not, their countries are moving closer to socialism," he remarked.

According to Bakrie, compared to superpowers, Indonesia has advantages in political stability and strategic foreign relations.

These factors create opportunities to improve the welfare of Indonesians amid global competition.

He added that market access is one of the key strengths Indonesia possesses in navigating global uncertainty.

"This means that, as I mentioned earlier, while we discuss foreign relations, the ultimate goal is to ensure the welfare of the Indonesian people," he concluded.
