Jakarta, VIVA – Indonesia has the potential to secure the third or fourth position in the global Islamic economy ranking, given the rapid development of its Islamic financial ecosystem.
This statement was made by Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Dr. Nono Sampono, S.PI., M.Si., President Director of Agung Sedayu Group (ASG), during a grand iftar event at Menara Syariah PIK 2 on Friday (March 14, 2025).
The event, held in the spirit of Ramadan, brought together 1,000 orphans from 16 foundations, fostering a sense of community and compassion. “This is a form of togetherness and care that we must continue to uphold,” said Nono in his speech.
Adding to the spiritual ambiance, Habib Bagir Bin Yahya, the grandson of the prominent 19th-century Jakarta cleric Habib Utsman bin Yahya, delivered a religious sermon. The children also enjoyed various entertainments, including storytelling and magic shows, making the evening even more memorable for them.
Beyond being a charitable initiative, the event also introduced Menara Syariah PIK 2 as a key landmark in Indonesia’s Islamic financial landscape. Situated in the heart of the PIK2 CBD, this complex aims to be Southeast Asia’s largest Islamic financial center.
It is designed to accommodate approximately 70 national Islamic banks, over 300 financial institutions under the supervision of the Financial Services Authority (OJK), and participation from international Islamic banks.
“If this ecosystem develops as planned, Indonesia could rank third or fourth among the top ten global Islamic economies,” Nono stated.
Other Ramadan festivities are also taking place in the PIK area, such as the ‘Kilau Ramadan’ at Batavia PIK, which runs every weekend until March 30, 2025.
Another major event, ‘Ramadan Under the Dome,’ will be held from March 21–23, featuring community iftars, religious talks, a Ramadan bazaar, live performances, tarawih prayers, games, and competitions for children.
Additionally, on March 7, 2025, the groundbreaking ceremony for Masjid Al Ikhlas PIK took place at Simpang Empat, Riverwalk Island. Expected to be completed by year-end, the mosque will serve as a gathering and worship place for the community, particularly during Ramadan next year.
