Jakarta, VIVA – Indonesian Vice President, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, stated that the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) is proof that Indonesia is not just a consumer, but also a producer of digital technology recognized on a global scale.
“QRIS isn’t just successful at home—it’s already accepted in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and soon in Japan and South Korea,” he said on Sunday (May 18).
According to the VP, QRIS as a digital transaction tool developed by Bank Indonesia (BI) in collaboration with the Indonesian Payment System Association (ASPI) shows that Indonesia is capable of preserving its sovereignty through its national financial industry.
Based on the President Prabowo Subianto’s statement, he said that the financial industry is the frontline in defending a nation’s sovereignty.

“As President Prabowo emphasized, the financial industry is a frontline and a stronghold in safeguarding national sovereignty—and QRIS is part of that ecosystem,” he remarked.
Gibran then added that the presence of QRIS has accelerated financial inclusion in Indonesia, especially for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), by offering a practical payment solution that doesn’t rely on cash, cards, or EDC machines.
“QRIS not only makes things easier for customers but also benefits street vendors, home-based businesses, and MSMEs,” he stated.
He also revealed that 93% of QRIS merchants currently come from the MSME sector, proving that digital adoption is spreading widely among small business players.
