Indonesia and Germany Celebrate a Century of Business Partnership

Jakarta, VIVA – The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the German-Indonesian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (AHK Indonesia/EKONID).

This agreement aims to strengthen long-term partnerships and promote closer bilateral business relations.

The signing coincided with the celebration of EKONID's 100th anniversary, marking a century of German corporate partnerships in Indonesia.

Since 1924, EKONID has actively contributed to the economic relationship between Indonesia and Germany, with bilateral trade reaching €7.1 billion by the end of 2024.

With more than 400 member companies, EKONID is the largest European chamber of commerce in Indonesia.

As part of a global network of German chambers of commerce with over 150 offices in more than 93 countries, EKONID holds a strategic position in facilitating global business partnerships and investments.

“This centennial celebration is a testament to the strength and resilience of the Indonesia-Germany economic relationship. Together, we can unlock even greater potential in the decades to come,” said Kadin Chairman Anindya Bakrie on Wednesday (June 4).

Bakrie also spoke about the MoU with EKONID, noting that it builds upon a previous partnership established on April 23, 2012.

According to him, the new agreement sets out a stronger and more strategic framework for future collaboration.

“Both institutions reaffirm their commitment to fostering a conducive, competitive, and sustainable business environment, while supporting international trade and investment between Indonesia and Germany,” he said.

Key points of the new MoU between KADIN Indonesia and EKONID include:

1. Information Exchange and Business Networking

Both parties will share general business-related information from Indonesia and Germany, facilitate connections through their respective networks, and support joint exposure via digital channels and social media

2. Policy Dialogue and Advocacy

The MoU aims to strengthen joint efforts in addressing key trade and investment policy issues and to develop recommendations for improving the regulatory climate for businesses.

3. Collaborative Programs and Activities

Both sides intend to organize events, projects, and initiatives that encourage private sector involvement in strengthening Indonesia-Germany economic relations.

This agreement formally confirms both organizations' mutual intent to maintain open lines of communication, reaffirms their dedication to enhancing bilateral ties, and opens up new opportunities for collaboration between Indonesian and German business communities.
