The Governor: Jakarta Sets 6 Percent Economic Growth Target for 2026

Jakarta, VIVA – Jakarta governor, Pramono Anung Wibowo has set an ambitious economic growth target of between 5.1 and 6 percent for the capital in 2026, signaling a renewed push for stronger macroeconomic performance as Jakarta aims to solidify its position as a modern global city.

The projection was announced during a plenary session of the Jakarta Regional House of Representatives on Sunday (June 22), held in celebration of the city’s 498th anniversary.

“We're targeting Jakarta’s economic growth to reach 5.1 to 6 percent in 2026 and continue to rise steadily through 2030,” Pramono said.

He stated that inflation in Jakarta is expected to reach 2.4 percent in 2026, a level that aligns with sustainable economic expansion.

To ensure these targets are met, the Jakarta Provincial Government is adopting a range of macroeconomic strategies, centered on the “4K” approach, such as price affordability, supply availability, smooth distribution, and effective communication.

“We’re also strengthening Jakarta’s food resilience by empowering state-owned enterprises in the food sector and expanding interregional cooperation to ensure equitable and efficient food distribution,” the governor explained.

These strategies are designed to foster long-term economic stability while supporting Jakarta’s ongoing transformation into a modern, connected global city.

Governor Pramono also emphasized the importance of preserving cultural identity amid modernization.

He highlighted plans to safeguard Jakarta’s cultural roots—especially Betawi heritage—through public art, culinary traditions, and the promotion of local customs.

“As Jakarta evolves into a global city, we must stay grounded in our cultural heritage. Preserving our arts, traditions, and cuisine—and showcasing Betawi icons in public spaces—keeps our identity alive and relevant,” he stated.

Looking ahead, Jakarta’s development will focus on creating synergy between economic, social, and cultural initiatives.

The government plans to enhance tourism and the creative economy, with new programs aimed at integrating local and regional identities.

One such initiative is transforming the Blok M area into a vibrant cultural and commercial hub, dubbed “Blok M with the spirit of Jakarta and the image of ASEAN”, which will be further strengthened through the creation of an ASEAN Center.
