Kadin Outlines Women's Empowerment Strategies to Boost National Economy

Jakarta, VIVA – Kadin Indonesia believes that efforts to empower Indonesian women to become a strong economic force should not focus solely on equality. Instead, it should be seen as a key strategy for achieving sustainable national growth.
However, the Deputy Chairman of Kadin Indonesia, Teguh Anantawikrama, pointed out that despite significant progress, women's participation in Indonesia’s economy remains suboptimal.
He emphasized the need for collective efforts across various sectors to maximize it.
"Over the past two decades, the female labor force participation rate in Indonesia has remained stagnant at around 53 percent, significantly lower than the 81 percent for men," Anantawikrama said on Tuesday (Feb 11).
"This trend persists despite improvements in women's education levels and a decline in birth rates," he added.

He also highlighted several barriers to women's economic participation. Some of the key factors limiting women's roles in Indonesia's economy include social norms, access to education, and difficulties in obtaining capital.
Recognizing these challenges, Kadin Indonesia has outlined strategies to empower women through various measures, such as expanding access to education and skills training, easing access to capital and investment, reforming policies and legal frameworks, driving cultural and social awareness shifts, and increasing female leadership.
"These efforts require synergy between the government, the private sector, and civil society to create an inclusive and supportive environment for women, enabling them to thrive and make meaningful contributions to national development," he stated.
