Jakarta, VIVA – Indonesia’s Minister of Investment and Downstreaming, Rosan Roeslani, has revealed that Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer VinFast plans to establish a factory in Indonesia.
He confirmed that VinFast representatives have met with Indonesian authorities to realize the investment.
"Yes, it’s true. VinFast has met with us regarding their plan to build a factory in Indonesia," the minister stated at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Tuesday (March 11).
Minister Roeslani emphasized that VinFast is highly committed to investing in Indonesia. If the plan goes ahead, Indonesia will be one of only two countries outside Vietnam where VinFast will establish a manufacturing plant.

"They are very interested. Indonesia is one of the two countries they are considering for investment outside Vietnam. And they are not just interested—they are very serious," he explained.
However, the minister did not reveal the exact location of the factory or the investment value. He mentioned that the VinFast plant is expected to cater to export markets.
The Ministry of Investment, he added, will work closely with VinFast to help them identify suitable locations for the factory.
"The Ministry of Investment will assist them in finding alternative locations so they can realize their planned investment."
Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto revealed that VinFast has also committed to building an EV charging station ecosystem, with a target of 100,000 units.
"One of Vietnam’s investments involves promoting VinFast EVs, and they have already planned an ecosystem of 100,000 charging stations," he stated.
Minister Hartarto also confirmed VinFast’s plan to establish a factory in Indonesia but admitted he could not recall the location or specific details of the investment.
In addition to VinFast’s investment, the minister highlighted broader Indonesia-Vietnam economic cooperation.
One key initiative involves Indonesia building an animal vaccine production facility in Vietnam.
However, details of this investment are yet to be revealed.
Furthermore, Minister Hartarto noted that Indonesian companies are already operating 130 projects in Vietnam. These firms are expected to boost Vietnam’s investment in Indonesia as well.
"They (Vietnam) plan to increase their investment in Indonesia. Both Vietnam and Indonesia share the same aspiration—to become high-income, developed nations within the next 100 years," he explained.
During a bilateral meeting between Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, To Lam, both nations reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation across various sectors, including politics, economics, education, science, and people-to-people relations.
This commitment was formalized through the exchange of three cooperation agreements between the two countries:
• Letter of Intent (LoI) on Capacity Building Cooperation in Technical and Digital Economy, signed by Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, and Vietnam’s Minister of Industry.
• Letter of Intent (LoI) on Science and Technology Cooperation, signed by Indonesia’s Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Brian Yuliarto, and Vietnam’s Minister of Science and Technology.
• Implementing Arrangement on Agricultural Cooperation, signed by Indonesia’s Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, and Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Environment.
