President Prabowo Attends 16th BIMP-EAGA Summit in Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, VIVA – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, attended the 16th Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) Summit held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center (KLCC), Malaysia, on Tuesday (May 27).
The event was officially opened by Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., who is serving as the chair of this year’s summit. In his speech, he welcomed the attending heads of state.
According to President Marcos, the 16th Summit holds special meaning as it marks eight years of implementation since the adoption of the BIMP-EAGA Vision 2025.

“It's a great honor for me to welcome you all to the 16th BIMP-EAGA Summit,” he stated.
Then, President Marcos highlighted the various achievements the region has reached together since 2017, which have delivered real benefits to the people.
He emphasized that BIMP-EAGA has laid a stronger foundation for inclusive and sustainable growth, driven by innovation.
“Our joint initiatives in connectivity, trade and investment facilitation, food and energy security, ecotourism, and green development have made significant progress. This strengthens our commitment to narrowing the development gap in our subregion,” he explained.
On this occasion, President Marcos also called on the leaders to seize the moment to reaffirm their shared vision for a more integrated, resilient, and prosperous BIMP-EAGA.
He stressed that moving forward will require greater synergy, innovation, and political will.
“I feel confident that through this cooperation, we will turn our aspirations into lasting impact for our people,” he affirmed.
President Marcos concluded his remarks by expressing hope for a productive 16th BIMP-EAGA Summit. “Thank you. I look forward to a fruitful meeting,” he said.
