Jakarta, VIVA – Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo marked the capital’s 498th anniversary with a strong message of transformation and ambition, vowing to elevate Jakarta into the list of the world’s top 50 global cities.
Speaking during a commemorative ceremony at the National Monument (Monas) on Sunday (June 22), Pramono reflected on the city’s historic evolution from a modest harbor into a major economic powerhouse.
“Jakarta has come a long way—from a small port called Sunda Kelapa to becoming the center of government, and now, transforming into a national economic hub and a global city,” he said in his keynote address.
The governor emphasized that Jakarta continues to push forward with development in every corner of the city to ensure a better quality of life for its millions of residents.
“This city never stops improving. Infrastructure is being built across all corners to reshape the city’s image and strengthen its role as a home for millions,” he added.
Highlighting the city's multicultural nature, the senior PDIP politician underlined that Jakarta’s diversity is one of its greatest strengths and a driving force in the nation’s progress.
“The cultural richness from across the archipelago—and the world—makes Jakarta a vibrant and dynamic city, full of color and spirit to keep advancing the nation,” Pramono noted.
In line with this vision, Pramono pledged that under his leadership, Jakarta will strive to secure a place among the world’s 50 leading cities.
