President Prabowo Received France’s Highest Honor by President Macron

Magelang, VIVA – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, received the highest honorary award from the French government, the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour in an official ceremony held at the Military Academy in Magelang, Central Java, on Thursday (May 29).

The prestigious award was personally bestowed by French President Emmanuel Macron.

The decoration ceremony took place after both leaders reviewed the troops during a formal state welcome. The medal was pinned on President Prabowo’s left chest by a member of the French delegation.

President Macron then placed a red sash over Prabowo’s shoulder as a symbol of honor before the two leaders shook hands and embraced.

In a statement, President Macron emphasized that the award was given as the highest form of recognition for Prabowo’s contributions to the bilateral relationship and strategic cooperation between Indonesia and France — particularly in defense and regional security.

The Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour is France’s highest distinction, awarded to both military and civilian individuals for outstanding service to the nation.

Following the ceremony, President Prabowo accompanied Macron to tour various educational facilities at the academy, including the language laboratory and military training centers.
